ALECTIA and Danish Crown start major campaign for health promotion

ALECTIA has signed an agreement with the Danish Crown Group to implement a major health study for the most vulnerable employees in the Group’s production areas. The aim is to identify any potential health problems before they arise. Experience shows that a targeted effort on health promotion is rewarded by fewer sickness days, greater job satisfaction and higher employee satisfaction.

The studies in the Danish Crown Group consist of hearing tests for employees exposed to loud noise, and health checks for employees on night shifts. They are being carried out over a period of three years and up to 5,000 tests are expected to be conducted.

Hearing tests
Employees exposed to loud noise are to be offered a work-based medical hearing test, consisting of a questionnaire and a personal and confidential talk with a health professional from ALECTIA. Depending on requirements, this talk will include a discussion of the risks of noise and a personal guide to using ear protection. Finally, a hearing test will be performed. The aim is to give employees advice and guidance on exposure to noise - as well as identify employees with reduced hearing so that they can receive consultation from a specialist.

Health checks
Employees on nightshifts will be offered a health check consisting of a questionnaire and a personal and confidential talk with a health professional from ALECTIA. The talk will include a discussion of the employee's attitudes to shift work and night shifts – including daily rhythms, sleep, family life and stress, as well as advice about health and lifestyle factors such as diet, exercise and smoking. A series of tests will then be performed (blood pressure, pulse, cholesterol, blood sugar levels and a range of physical parameters). The aim is to give employees advice and guidance about shift work, as well as to identify any employees with health problems so that they can receive consultation from a specialist.

The results will be collected in an anonymous report, which will provide a total overview of the state of health of the relevant employee groups. The results will be incorporated in the Danish Crown Group’s future workplace evaluations.
