COLUN is the largest dairy cooperative in Chile and one of the leading dairy product companies in the growing South American market. COLUN is building one of the most productive and sustainable cheese factories in the world and has hired consulting company ALECTIA to advise on a Master Plan, Conceptual Design and other highly specialist skills within dairy competences.

The dairy company COLUN is planning to build a state-of-the-art plant for the production of cheese in La Union in southern Chile. COLUN is one of the largest dairy companies in Chile and wants to expand their capacity for production of cheese.

The COLUN cooperative includes 750 farmers, 1,300 employees, collects more than 1.2 million liters of milk per day and produces 240 dairy products for sale in Chile and abroad – primarily to the South American market. The products include milk, cheese, butter, yogurt, dulce de leche and other dairy products.

ALECTIA has been chosen as the trusted adviser for COLUN in shaping the new cheese plant, including a Master Plan and the Conceptual Design which will provide the basis for the tender dossier. ALECTIA, with its extensive dairy expertise, contributes with a wide range of specialist skills, in particular within Process, Utility, Project Management and Business Consulting. This will provide COLUN with a very sustainable plant taking the CAPEX and the OPEX carefully into consideration. The plant will be one of the best performing cheese plants in South America.

The cheese plant is under construction and will start production in the middle of 2012.
