From gas supply to district heating in Brøndby

ALECTIA has won the engineering consultancy of a district heating project in the industrial district Ragnesminde in Brøndby. The project includes conversion of the gas supply area to district heating, resulting in financial benefits for the customers connected and environmental benefits through reduction of the CO2 emission.
During 2011-2013, the industrial district Ragnesminde in the Municipalities of Brøndby and Vallensbæk will be converted from gas supply to district heating supply.
The project proposal has been sent to the municipalities for approval, and the approval is expected to be granted in May 2011. VEKS (Heat Transmission Company) is the client, and the total capital investment is approx. DKK 100M.
ALECTIA advises on the district heating project and will plan 17 km of district heating pipelines and heat exchange installations for the industrial customers who wish to convert to district heating. In the district heating station of Brøndbyvester, ALECTIA is also to design a heat exchanger station. In the same period, ALECTIA will be in charge of the construction management and supervision, of ensuring a good working environment and of the safety coordination.
Socio-economic and environmental benefits
A socio-economic analysis of the district heating conversion in Brøndby was made at the time of preparing the project proposal. The analysis showed a positive cost-benefit of converting the area to district heating; primarily due to the low fuel costs of district heating based on an efficient combined heat and power production.
In addition, there will be environmental benefits from the project, due to reduction of the CO2 and SO2 emission. At the end of the planning period, the conversion to district heating will save approx. 5,000 tonnes of CO2 annually, if all the potential 250 district heating customers establish a connection.
Conversion to district heating at Slotsholmen
ALECTIA is currently also adviser on another district heating project for the Danish Palaces and Properties Agency where the heat supply at Slotsholmen will be converted from steam to district heating. Slotsholmen is an island in the centre of Copenhagen, including Christiansborg Palace, the home of the Danish Parliament, the Prime Minister’s office and the Supreme Court. Other well-known buildings on the island are the Christiansborg Palace Chapel, Thorvaldsen’s Museum, the State Archives, the Royal Danish Arsenal Museum and several government departments.
