Fully automated car park on The Brewery Site

In 2012 Realdania Byg begins the building of The Brewery Site Project on the waterfront of Copenhagen, which among others will include the Danish Architecture Centre and a large fully automated car park of three storeys underneath the spectacular building.

The Brewery Site Project at the waterfront of Copenhagen will be placed on a 9,000 m2 large brewery site, which is the last unbuilt site at the waterfront between Langebro and Knippelsbro. The building will have prominent neighbours, such as The Brewery of Christian IV, the Royal Library’s “The Black Diamond” and the office building “New Christiansborg”. ALECTIA has been chosen as the consultant on the large fully automated car park of three storeys.

The purpose of the underground car park is to remove surface parking around The Brewery Site Project in order to transform the area along Frederiksholms Canal into an evocative pedestrian passage between the waterfront and the inner city of Copenhagen. The car park will be fully automated, meaning that an elevator system in the car park will make sure that the car is put away and picked up again.

Extensive car park experiences
ALECTIA has been chosen as the consultant due to the wide experience in advising on both traditional and fully automated car parks. As an example, ALECTIA is the consultant on Urban Mediaspace at the port of Aarhus, which includes one of the most visionary fully automated car parks in Europe with room for about 1,000 cars. The car park will be about 3 times bigger than the largest similar car parks in Denmark.

Furthermore, ALECTIA has been the consultant on three fully automated car parks in Copenhagen and on a public car park with 450 parking spaces in Denmark’s largest low-energy building Navitas in Aarhus.

More life to the harbour area
The Brewery Site is owned by Realdania and is scheduled for opening in 2015.

It will connect city and harbour by creating more life to the harbour area. The Brewery Site project will be a building with many functions. In the middle of the house The Danish Architecture Centre is placed – with showrooms, bookshop and café. Furthermore, the building will contain flats, offices and restaurants. Towards the harbour the building will have a harbour promenade for pedestrians. The surrounding area will be designed with playgrounds and a place for enjoying the sun.
