Municipal action plans for the Water and Natura 2000 Plans

Vand-_og_naturplaner.png

After the Water and Natura 2000 Plans were approved by the Danish Environment Minister Ida Auken in December 2011, it is now up to the municipalities to prepare action plans on how to achieve the objectives specified in the plans. Action plan drafts must be submitted during the month of June 2012, and the plans must therefore be ready for the first political negotiations already in the spring.

The future process is a balancing act between the ambition level, the tight timeframes and the present challenges of the municipality. At the same time, the preparation of the action plans gives a unique opportunity to incorporate efforts and make the prioritizations, which have the greatest possible synergy effect on for example the climate challenges of the municipality.

The short deadline places heavy demands on a focused and efficient task performance, and ALECTIA can help the municipalities in the process with the preparation of the action plans. ALECTIA has the necessary cross-disciplinary competences and knowledge for assisting within the following services in the process:

  • Process assistance for coordination of the cross-disciplinary competences that must take place in and between the municipalities to be able to work out efficient action plans
  • Assistance for prioritization of the efforts in the action plans
  • Ensuring the accordance between ambition level and financing
  • Ensuring maximum synergy effects on the municipal climate challenges
  • Assistance for specific efforts regarding wetlands, river valleys and stream restoration

ALECTIA offers to solve the sketched services as regular consulting assignments or by lending employees for shorter or longer periods.

The Water and Natura 2000 Plans

The national water and nature plans determine the objectives of the future water and nature quality:

  • The water plans form an overall plan for an improved Danish water environment. The water plans must ensure cleaner water in the Danish lakes, inlets and streams – in accordance with the EU Water Frame Directive.
  • The Natura 2000 plans form an overall plan for how to preserve and restore the most important nature resorts, which in particular consists of habitat and bird protection areas.
