On Esbjerg Police Headquarters the building envelope has been renovated for DKK 13 millions. ALECTIA has designed the suspension of the new facing, carried out construction management and examined the joints of the building for the toxic substance PCB. The result is a more modern building with reduced heat loss and increased comfort for the employees of the police headquarters.

From 2010-2011 the building envelope on Esbjerg Police Headquarters has been renovated. The building envelope is the part of the building that separates the external and internal environment, and it is a joint designation for external walls, foundations, ground deck, roof, windows and doors. The reason for the renovation is a wish for energy optimization and preventive maintenance.

ALECTIA has designed the suspension of the new facing, which most places has been made of dark fibre-cement plate and other places of pre-patinated copper. Under the facing re-insulation has been made with 200 mm extra insulation in order to minimize the heat loss of the police headquarters.

Moreover, new light window sections have been mounted in the building. The window division has been changed and new solar protection has been added to parts of the building.

Furthermore, ALECTIA has been in charge of the construction management during the execution stage and has carried out examinations for the toxic substance PCB, which can be found in sealing compounds in buildings built or renovated in the 1950’s and up to 1977, where the substance was banned in Denmark. PCB can be diffused to the indoor climate in buildings and cause serious health consequences. Fortunately, no occurrences of the substance were found at the police headquarters.

The building owner is the Danish Palace and Properties Agency, the architect is P+P and the project contractor is Jensen & Jensen A/S.
