New greenfield brewery in Tibet

China is the fastest growing nation in the brewing industry, and the biggest beer market in the world. ALECTIA has assisted Tibet Tiandi Green Beverage Development CO., Ltd. with the establishment of a new, sizeable greenfield brewery in Lhasa, Tibet.

3600 meters above sea level
Tibet Tiandi Green Beverage Development CO., Ltd. is located 3600 meters above sea level west of Lhasa city, a location making it one of the highest-altitude commercial breweries in the world. The altitudes have been an interesting challenge for ALECTIA’s brewing experts, partly due to the physical challenges of working at such incredible heights, but also because of the challenges in planning the logistics, the water access and finding the technology needed for brewing beer in a location where the atmospheric pressure is only 0.65 bar. Despite these facts, the new brewery has become a very successful, high-tech facility.

2.0 million hl/year
Tibet Tiandi Green Beverage Development CO., Ltd. produces 50% of all beer sold in Tibet, but beer lovers from all over the world have also noticed the beer – not only due to the great taste but also because of the special location of the brewery.

Today, the Tibet Tiandi Green Beverage Development CO., Ltd. has an annual production capacity of 2.0 million hl/year and produces three differently packed “Tibet Highland Green Barley” beers in both cans and bottles. The facility is built for the future, has great opportunities to expand and will be able to produce new and different products as the market develops.

ALECTIA has carried out three different stages described as project design assessment/site management, commissioning/brewery production and quality supervision.

Through the collaboration, Tibet Tiandi Green Beverage Development CO., Ltd. has had the advantage of working with ALECTIA’s international brewing experts who have generations of experience from breweries all over the world. ALECTIA’s team has consisted of three Chinese brewing experts who know all about Chinese technologies, and ALECTIA’s Danish experts who have worked with some of the world’s most successful brewery groups, deploying best-in-class brewery know-how.

Tibet Tiandi Green Beverage Development CO., Ltd. has asked ALECTIA for a long-term cooperation in the following areas:

  • Beer quality management
  • Process development with highland barley
  • An extension project of fermentation tanks and beer processing area for the future beer volume increase
  • Setting up a beer research and technical center
