Noise mapping and noise measurement for Statens Serum Institut

SSI noise map

ALECTIA carries out noise mapping and noise measurement for Statens Serum Institut (SSI) with a view to promoting good working environment and a high level of environmental protection.

As a manufacturing facility, SSI wants to minimize its environmental impact in the neighbouring areas, including external noise. The vaccine production and the research work at SSI place high demands on ventilation and refrigeration of production rooms and laboratories, and so the operation requires a large number of ventilation outlets and effective refrigeration plants. Low-noise solutions are a natural parameter when choosing technical equipment.

ALECTIA continuously assists SSI in their effort to ensure that the current noise limits are observed. This is carried out as noise mapping and noise measurements and by advising on noise reduction of technical plants.

Continuous noise measurements
ALECTIA updates the noise map – Environmental measurement of external noise – on an ongoing basis as part of SSI’s environmental approval.

With regard to external noise, SSI is divided into 4 quadrants that are updated in turns through measurements of relevant noise sources. Furthermore, noise measurements are performed of new sources, and a registration is made of noise sources that are no longer in operation or have changed operation patterns. The measurements are performed on both stationary noise sources and on vehicles in the area, which are also part of the total noise contribution.

This method of noise mapping ensures that all relevant noise sources are re-measured at approx. 5-year intervals, and that a continuous updating of SSI’s noise contribution to the neighbouring areas is made.

SSI enters the updated noise measurements into a 3D computer model in the programme SoundPlan, and the total noise contribution to the surrounding areas is calculated. Subsequently, SSI submits a documentation report to the authorities.

Acoustics, noise and vibrations
The acoustics specialists in ALECTIA have expert knowledge within advising, measurement and planning of acoustics, noise and vibrations, including:

  • Building acoustics
  • Traffic noise
  • Industrial noise
  • Noise mapping

ALECTIA is a member and sponsor of the Danish Acoustical Society.
