One of Europe’s largest waterfront projects

The construction works have started for good at the Aarhus Docklands in Denmark. The outline of a completely new part of the city is beginning to move off the drawing board and into existence. In the summer of 2011, the construction of the Urban Mediaspace with the Multimedia House and Navitas Park - the largest low-energy building in Denmark will begin with ALECTIA as consultants.
Construction is in full swing in Aarhus Docklands, the new city district of Aarhus in Denmark. When completed, Aarhus Docklands will be 800,000 square meters with room for 7,000 residents and 12,000 jobs, and thus one of Europe’s largest waterfront projects both in terms of volume and in terms of visions.
During the summer of 2011, the construction of Urban Mediaspace and Navitas Park will begin with ALECTIA as consultants. The buildings –both of about 35,000 m2 - will be ready in 2014; the surrounding open spaces and road systems will be completed by the end of 2015.
Project proposal for Urban Mediaspace
Urban Mediaspace will house the future Main Library and the Citizen Service Centre occupying approx. 18,000 m2 with a further 10,000 m2 for rent. Denmark’s largest automated car park will be established under the buildings, with room for about 1,000 cars. Read more about Urban Mediaspace here.
Work is currently going on to finalise the project proposal for the Urban Mediaspace. This will include a detailed plan of the architectural, functional and technical details of the project. The project proposal will consider:
- Choice of materials
- Lighting and lighting design
- Acoustics
- Indoor climate
- Traffic patterns in relation to the car park.
Geotechnical drillings under Navitas Park
The new centre of innovation and energy of Aarhus is called Navitas Park and will be the largest low-energy construction project in Denmark. The centre will house Aarhus School of Engineering, Aarhus School of Marine and Technical Engineering and a department of INCUBA Science Park. It will be placed on its own island.
The local development plan will be ready in February 2011 and subsequently submitted for public consultation. In addition, geotechnical drillings showing the bearing strength and settling conditions of the underground have been carried out, as well as environmental impact surveys.
