Skagen Skipper School sets sail
A new energy-efficient administration and education building for Skagen Skipper School has just been opened. In line with expectations, the new building complies with low energy class 2015, as the first building in Denmark, according to the Danish Building regulations, BR10, with an estimated energy consumption of 44.9 kWh/m2 per year including additions but without contributions from energy-producing plants.
The new domicile of Skagen Skipper School has a gross area of 2515 m2 divided into three storeys, and is situated in the new area of Port of Skagen. The turnkey contractor Raunstrup, aart architects and the consulting company ALECIA are behind the project.
Skagen Skipper School has just been opened and before the opening energy labelling of the building was carried out. As expected the building complies with low energy class 2015 according to the Danish Building regulations, BR10, with an estimated energy consumption of 44.9 kWh/m2 per year including additions. The building is in compliance with the requirements for low energy class 2015 without using sustainable energy sources (solar cells, wind turbines and heat pumps).
As the building is not located in a district heating area, where deduction is given in the energy calculations, high demands have been put on building design, choice of materials, insulation thickness, compactness of the building and energy-efficient installations.
Skagen Skipper School has cost DKK 45 millions and has room for 120 pupils. The school will be the only remaining school in Denmark educating fishing-boat skippers for the fishing industry and coastal skippers, home-trade masters and officers for the merchant fleet.
