ALECTIA is the consultant on a project to extend the Hospital of Southern Jutland in Aabenraa into an acute hospital. The vision is to create a patient-focused hospital where high quality is ensured 24 hours a day.
As part of the new hospital structure for the Region of Southern Denmark, an extension of the Hospital of Southern Jutland will take place in the coming years. This means that in the future, the Region will have an acute hospital in Aabenraa, a specialist hospital in Sønderborg and a same-day hospital in Tønder.
ALECTIA has won the extension of the Hospital of Southern Jutland in Aabenraa into an acute hospital together with the architects Creo Arkitekter and Aarhus Arkitekterne, who are the main consultants, and Søren Jensen, Balslev and Oluf Jørgensen.
ALECTIA’s services will include planning of ventilation, programming of a new central sterile department and managing equipment supplies, programming of a new goods reception and a waste station, execution of installation projects on the goods reception, logistics planning, as well as supervision of all heating, ventilation and sanitation work.
Integrated sustainability
The hospital of Southern Jutland has made several demands on sustainability for both plant works and the subsequent daily operation. Among other things, this regards environment, working climate and the best possible utilization of resources through better logistics, new technology, etc.
To ensure a high degree of sustainability, the Hospital of Southern Jutland works with a control method called “Integrated Design Process”. Instead of focusing on isolated solutions, the integrated design process aims at assessing and finding the best overall solutions all the time.
Large-scale extension in two stages
The extension is placed in connection with the existing hospital and will increase the hospital in Aabenraa from the current 25,600 m2 to 69,600 m2. The project is to be carried out in two stages, of which the first stage is expected to be finished in 2013 and the second one in 2018.
Stage 1 will include:
- A family house with paediatrics and maternity ward, etc.
- A cardiological bed section, outpatient department and a laboratory
- Two operating rooms for gynaecology/obstetrics
- A shared acute reception (FAM)
- A reception kitchen
- A central sterile room
- A new and extended goods reception
In addition to this, a multi-storey car park, office, research and training facilities, connecting passages and basement/shell will be established.
Stage 2 will primarily include an establishment of further floors with bed sections on the top of the new family house and an extension of the treatment areas.
