ALECTIA carries out emission mapping for Grundfos

With an annual production of more than 16 million pump units, Grundfos is one of the world’s leading pump manufacturers. ALECTIA carries out emission mapping for Grundfos in Bjerringbro and Aalestrup in order to reduce the costs for exhaust measurements and to make faster environmental impact assessment of production changes in the future.

Grundfos is one of the world’s leading pump manufacturers, and in 2009 the company had a turnover of DKK 17 billions, 16,000 employees and an annual production of more than 16 million pump units. ALECTIA carries out emission mapping of the factories in Bjerringbro and Aalestrup and acts as consultant on the following assignments:

  • Official dialogue with the municipality of Viborg, which has required an emission mapping for an environmental approval given in 2009.
  • Evaluate the possibility of reducing the number of exhaust measurements by placing production units next to each other where the exhaust is the same.
  • Develop tools for assessing new substances in the production and whether these will cause significant emission changes.
  • Tools for assessing which production units that can be moved on site without having an impact on the total emission.

As a result of the emission mapping in Bjerringbro and Aalestrup, Grundfos’ costs for the exhaust measurements will be significantly reduced, as the municipality can require all exhaust points in a factory to be measured. For one of the factories it concerns approx. 200 exhaust points. Moreover, the objective is that changes in the production can be assessed faster as regards environmental appraisal.

The project is a cross-disciplinary cooperation between two of ALECTIA’s strong competences People and Environment. This creates an interaction of skills within ventilation, exhaustion, measurement of dust, steam and gasses, emission calculations according to the OML model, permissions and approvals in connection with the Environment Protection Act and contact with the authorities.
