ALECTIA optimizes energy consumption at Slotsholmen

The Danish Palaces and Properties Agency has chosen ALECTIA as their consultant in connection with conversion of the heat supply on Slotsholmen from steam to district heating. The assignment was won in competition with five other large consultancy companies.

Slotsholmen is an island in the centre of Copenhagen and includes Christiansborg Palace, the home of Danish Parliament, the Prime Minister’s office, the Royal Reception Rooms, and the Supreme Court. Other well-known buildings are the Christiansborg Palace Chapel, Thorvaldsen's Museum, the Royal Library, the Royal Arsenal Museum and several Government departments.

The island is encircled by channels and the inner harbour. Today the buildings are supplied with heat from an old and outdated steam system, but will in the future be supplied with traditional district heating from Copenhagen Energy. The total building area is approx. 170,000 m2 with a heat consumption equivalent to approx. 1,000 detached houses. The project includes rebuilding of a total of approx. 30 heating plants in 2010 and 2011 with a total capacity of 8 MW.

ALECTIA is in charge of all technical consultancy services in connection with design and planning, tender and contract management, construction management, and expert supervision of the sanitary, electrical and SCADA installations. All document handling is done via Docia, the construction industry's digital tool for project and facility management.

Slotsholmen is a very complex area with many stakeholders. The competition judges have in their decision emphasized ALECTIA’s detailed descriptions of how to avoid unintentional interruptions of work during the execution phase, and ALECTIA’s ability to act on incidents that cannot be planned in advance. This could for instance be events arranged by the Prime Minister’s office, the Royal family, the Supreme Court, or Parliament.
