Climate adaption and blue structure

Middelfart Waste Water Company is to work with Middelfart Municipality to develop a new residential area, Stiklingen, and create an area that can demonstrate energy-efficient housing combined with a climate-controlled drainage system for the area. This is the result of a decision by the Middelfart Council to implement a series of guidelines for making new housing developments environmentally correct. The experience gained can be used for providing sewers and drainage systems for other, new housing developments and renovation projects in the district.

ALECTIA has helped create a project plan for a water framework for the area, called “Blue Structure”, where rain water is incorporated as a part of the local recreational environment by diverting rain water into open channels, which can be integrated architecturally into the residential development. The water framework will operate in conjunction with the open green spaces and supply extra quality.

An alternative drainage system that takes water from roadways and roofs will help bring excess water from the area to a minimum. This will benefit a nearby creek that is periodically flooded with rainwater, and will also help delay the flow, allow for seepage, and evaporate as much of the rainwater as possible before it is dis-charged.
