COBIS: Copenhagen Bio Science Park

ALECTIA is working as consulting engineers on the construction of new the biotech science park, Copenhagen Bio Science Park. COBIS will be an international and growth environment, where researchers, entrepreneurs, and companies can gather around research and development activities. The flexible rooms are designed to accommodate research work within genetic engineering.
Copenhagen Bio Science Park (COBIS), the first pure biotech research park, is the result of a cooperation between Symbion and Scion DTU (both existing Science Parks). The basic idea is to create an incubator environment, where biotechnological and pharmaceutical ideas from the universities can be developed and flourish.
The location of COBIS is centrally and strategically placed on the Northern Campus in Copenhagen close to the research environments of the Faculty of Health Sciences, the Biotech Research and Innovation Centre, and the National hospital. The Science Park offers offices and laboratories to interested parties.
ALECTIA won the competition together with the architects TNT and Jørn Langvad. ALECTIA is responsible for consulting engineering, construction management, security coordination, and supervision.
The first phase of the innovative laboratory and office environment covering 4.000 m² was inaugurated at the beginning of 2009. The second phase is well underway, and when the project is finished, COBIS will have a building area of 10,000 m².
In the design of the building, flexibility has been important to ensure that the rooms can be easily adapted to the requirements of the users. Offices and laboratories are constructed as basic solutions allowing the tenants to adapt the rooms and laboratories to their needs. The rooms are not furnished, but surfaces, easy-to-clean materials, density and installations mean that the rooms are designed to function as class 2 laboratories and ready for among other things genetic engineering research work.
