Denmark’s first super-hospital

The New University Hospital in Aarhus (DNU) will be the country’s first super-hospital. It will be built on to the existing Aarhus University hospital in Skejby to form a combined hospital compound of approximately 1.2 million m2. Construction is expected to be completed in 2020.
ALECTIA has delivered consultancy services to the healthcare sector for almost 100 years, and we are proud to help build the new university hospital together with Rådgivergruppen DNU (Consultant Group DNU). A hospital is a complex project with a long list of requirements in terms of buildings and equipment. Consideration also needs to be given to efficient processes, good patient care and a good mental and physical working environment for the staff.
It is essential that the DNU is made as flexible as possible so that it can adapt to the many types of treatment that may be required in the future. As consulting engineers, we have been able to look at the project from different perspectives, using our logistics expertise from the international process industry. The result will be a hospital with optimal options for expanding capacity and minimising logistical tasks for clinical personnel.
With such an extensive project, working environment is central to the planning and construction. ALECTIA is project manager for the occupational health and safety activities. We provide consultancy, management and coordination services for all the activities in these areas. We have created an extensive plan for a healthy and safe working environment, which includes a number of concrete steps that will ensure:
- Prevention and minimising of working loads, accidents and injuries in the working environment.
- Job satisfaction and a good mental working environment.
