Marine Harvest: the world’s largest salmon producer

Marine_Harvest.jpg

In recent years the world’s largest producer of salmon, Marine Harvest Norway AS, has expanded within the area of salmon processing. Therefore ALECTIA has been engaged as consultant to advise Marine Harvest on the long-term investment plans, master plans for the factories, and implementation of rebuilding and extension projects.

In Norway, the salmon production is now a significant industry, which has grown since the first salmon pioneers tried to breed salmon in nets approximately 30 years ago. With an annual turnover of NOK 15 billions, Marine Harvest is the world’s largest producer of salmon. For the same reason, at the turn of the year 2009/2010, Marine Harvest was mentioned in the New Year’s Speech of the Norwegian prime minister’s as a company that is doing exceptionally well.

The public limited company with more than 5,000 employees has its main office in Oslo and is represented in 18 countries worldwide. Through recent years the company has expanded. Even when salmon diseases stopped the entire Chilean production for several years, Marine Harvest was able to grow globally and create an extremely good operating economy. Due to the general increase in the production and filet production Marine Harvest hired ALECTIA to help with a comprehensive and multiple development and structural analysis for the future production.

Among other things, ALECTIA advises on the production areas and technical investments that should be carried out and optimized by Marine Harvest to ensure that the company will be able to continue their progress. Marine Harvest has a 10-year investment plan that includes optimization and master plans for environment, building works, processes, business processes, and working environment. In that way, ALECTIA has the possibility to bring all five domains of talent into play: Business, People, Environment, Process and Building.

Marine Harvest has a strong focus on sustainability, and the company has a comprehensive CSR policy focusing on being the leading company within their field as regards environment, production and working environment.

Leading consulting company for the Danish and international food industry

One of ALECTIA’s strategies is to purchase companies that can support the business focus and strategy. In May 2009, ALECTIA purchased the companies of the Tano FoodCon Group as part of the growth strategy. With the purchase of Tano, ALECTIA has strengthened its position as the leading consultancy company for the Danish and international food industry. Since 1998, Tano has worked for Marine Harvest and is now, through the cross-disciplinary competences in ALECTIA, capable of carrying out consultancy assignments for Marine Harvest on a high strategic level.
