Sustainable urban development project in Odense

ForskerparkOdense.jpg

Sustainability is at the heart of the new Research and Development Park with a focus on a new physical structure for sharing research knowledge, as well as being an area with inspiring landscape and infrastructure.

ALECTIA won the competition together with the architecture firm C.F. Møller and SLA Landskab and was appointed by Freja Ejendomme to develop a structural plan and district development plan for the new Research and Development Park.

This project will need to incorporate a number of sustainability requirements into the housing development, and will therefore have to consider:

  • An infrastructure that causes minimal or no energy loss during distribution and transport
  • Local rain water processing
  • Solar panels for energy production
  • Solar walls for passive heating of ventilation air
  • Moveable, exterior sun protection
  • Sand beds under the buildings to retain heat from the solar walls
  • Energy exchange between the business and the residences to take advantage of excess heat
  • Cooling with rain water
  • Energy-efficient lighting

The Research and Development Park will have space for both start-up companies and well-established firms, as well as service and consultancy businesses. Hotels, housing, dormitories, childcare centres, shops and cafes will also be built. The district development plan is expected to be approved by mid-July 2010.
